Former TN Pastor calls for Wamp to Resign Following Attacks on Local Inner-City Pastor

Chattanooga, TN – February 11, 2025—Local faith leaders and community advocates are calling for the immediate resignation of Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp after his public attack on a Chattanooga city pastor—an attack many are calling hypocritical.

Mayor Wamp’s criticism of Pastor Caudle, following a sermon clip he deemed "hateful rhetoric," has sparked backlash from across the community. While Wamp has demanded Caudle step down from a local planning committee, he has remained silent on similar—if not worse—rhetoric from leaders within his own political party.

Community leaders are asking:

  • Where was Wamp’s outrage when Donald Trump pardoned violent criminals who attempted to overturn a democratic election?

  • Where was his call for resignations when January 6 rioters attacked the U.S. Capitol?

  • Why does he only demand accountability from a Black pastor while excusing others?

“This is hypocrisy, plain and simple,” said Joshua Perez, a former Tennessee pastor and community advocate. “Instead of standing up for justice, Mayor Wamp is targeting a local faith leader while bending the knee to billionaires.”

Citing Isaiah 1:17, Perez emphasized the moral responsibility of leadership:
“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”

As calls for Wamp’s resignation grow, Chattanooga’s faith and civic leaders are rallying behind Pastor Caudle, affirming his right to speak truth to power without political retaliation.

📢 Community members are encouraged to stand up against this blatant double standard, and stand beside Rev. Caudle as he and his congregation are facing these attacks coming from Mr. Wamp and Mr. Musk.
